Tapas = Chaos!
I did not know that this beautifully set restaurant even existed until 2 weeks ago, when trying to find a place for friends coming from out of town. It is tucked away on the bottom floor of the Post Office Centre in Illovo.
I just loved the decor and set-up and there are various seating options which are all pretty unique! With their wine cellar you really have a HUGE assortment of quality wines to choose from.
Friends arrived and after placing our drinks orders, we were presented with 2 menu boards to choose from. I’d say on average each couple shared 4-5 dishes which, when split between 2 people, works out to be about R100-120 each.
If you’re not one for sharing your food and chaos bugs you, then be warned! The same types of foods came together on one plate and had to be split between those who had ordered them. While the majority of tapas came out together some plates came in drips and drabs during the remainder of the evening. As for the service in general: it was not great and could definitely do with improvement!
A few favourites for the evening were the Wasabi Infused Fishcakes, Lamb/Raison Samoosas and the Beef and Bearnaise Arancini (only one in a portion) but there really wasn’t much to fault despite the portion sizes being on the small side. The dishes were nicely presented and everything was tasty.
It had to have been one of the hottest days this summer as it registered 34 degrees at 6.30pm on my drive there. Despite aircons billowing on max the restaurant was hot, slightly uncomfortably so, but we made the most out of the evening anyway.
The idea of tapas is great but I am more conservative and prefer to eat my own meal (or maybe I’m just really bad at sharing food after being in boarding school and having 7 siblings – haha). Either way with the noise levels and size of the tables I’d recommend trying this place out with a smaller group of no more than 4-6 people.
