What an awesome little breakfast outing to go and try The Whippet! They are closed on a Sunday so Saturday’s are a bit chaotic and you will definitely be put on a waiting list when you arrive, so brace yourself for a 20 minute wait. What’s nice though, is that it gave us time to take a walk around the area and explore a bit. There was a little market nearby at ‘la Bouffe’, where I bought a few trinkets, and a few other places to wonder into.
The Argentinian across the road is a bakery and is said to have the best croissants in town, so you can browse around there too while you wait. I enjoy Linden because it has an ‘old’ feel to it and is really out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
Once inside, the atmosphere is buzzing. The acoustics are loud, so if noise bugs you be sure to get a table outside. The staff are rushing around attending to everyone but I was pleasantly surprised that they remained very friendly throughout and we did not feel like our wait for coffee or food was overextended.
Their ‘Muddy Chai’ (a combination of chai latte and shot of espresso) is my new favourite drink and for R3 more, be sure to choose the ‘tall’ option. It has a decadent flavour to it, which just adds something extra to an ordinary coffee. They have dedicated barista’s and bags of their own branded coffee on the walls, so I would imagine the rest of their coffee’s are worth trying too.
Their breakfasts are outstanding! Both the eggs benedict (R65) as well as the omlette (R73) were amongst the best we’ve had. The omlette was light and fluffy and generously filled, while the eggs benedict came with perfectly poached eggs and a deliciously rich and buttery hollandaise sauce (which I specifically asked for on the side).
They are also open for lunch and serve more simple meals in-line with a ‘cafe type’ menu.
