What could be better than a mid-week outing to eat the most delicious dim sum? Word is clearly reaching the crowds because every table was booked out for their dim sum, Tuesday special and it’s no wonder when you get 10 pieces for R80.
Located in the most unassuming centre on Barry Hertzhog, this is the second branch to spring up. I have also enjoyed a meal at their Illovo branch and you will quickly decipher that they have the same owners when you see the very recognisable cat wallpaper.
The layout is cute and unpretentious with really simple decor and the tables on the pavement outside give a nice feel to it.
We ordered Edamame beans for starters which was a first for me! You pop the soft, little soya beans out of their shell to enjoy their fresh flavour. We then chose 5 different dim sum options and could not fault any of them. Everyone had their personal preference but they really were all well-made and absolutely divine! They have a few craft beers on offer too if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary (for anyone who likes ginger beer with a kick, then a locally brewed Dragon beer is a great choice).
As we had no more space for their main meals (curries, stirfry’s etc) we finished off the evening with Paul’s Homemade, milk chocolate, Ice Cream which was enjoyed by the sweet tooths at the table.
Where I found the restaurant fell short was in the acoustics of the place as well as the service. It got so loud that we could barely hear each other, let alone our waiter when he described various options on the menu. The tables outside seemed much quieter and if it isn’t too cold when I next go back, I will choose that option. The waiters were friendly but slightly disorganised, which became evident when our starter arrived with our mains, despite ordering them 20 minutes apart.
The evening was well-spent and enjoyable especially when considering the quality and price of the food. I will definitely be back!!
