This new little groovy, African-themed bar/coffee shop should be on your list of places to go. Despite the Friday afternoon traffic and robots out for most of the trip, causing absolute chaos on the roads, this visit was definitely worth my while.
Owner Rob made us feel very welcome and even though it was freezing outside, this open-aired venue heats up nicely with a roaring fire and mushroom heaters placed all around. The space is small but we managed to grab a comfy couch and got settled in for the evening. They are located below Katy’s Palace and in front of Amatuli’s Artefacts (for those of you wanting to stroll around and pick out something cool for your home) on 6 Desmond Road.
With a focus on Africa you will be able to get a taste of a variety of imported goods: Beer from Mozambique, Coffee from Ethiopia and some African Chocolate form part of this unique menu. They focus on simple, tasty food like home-made pies, flat breads and salads. I got to taste one of their little chicken pies and it was great! Their choice of white, house wines was good (Haute Cabriere and Sophie) and decently priced at R35/glass while a beer will set you back R30 odd.
Their coffee hatch opens at 6.30 am if you happen to drive by on your way to work and need to grab a quick breakfast. They close shop at 8.00 pm, so it’s a cool spot to hang out after work with mates as well.
Best of luck to Rob and his team, this place is going far!
p.s your jars of popcorn handed out as a snack made my day 🙂
